Parents can turn off search and give their kids access to a more limited set of videos. ![]() On YouTube Kids, unlike regular YouTube, a parent cannot enable restricted mode. Like with the web YouTube, go to Settings to enable restrictive mode. ![]() The videos chosen are based on the age of the viewer, but some questionable content has slipped through the cracks. YouTube designed the mobile app as a safer place for kids under 12, and says some 11 million use it monthly. There are many free ones available for the web ( ) and mobile (check Google Play and Apple's App Store.) YouTube Kids App You can pay YouTube $10 monthly for a subscription to ad-free YouTube Red, or use an ad-blocker. You may be uncomfortable with your kids seeing an endless array of sugared cereal and toy ads with their videos. Extensions for the Chrome and Firefox browser are easy to install. This is important, because even Google notes that with its endless loop of suggested videos based on your watch history, "sometimes your child may find content in the app that you may not want them to watch." That's what YouTube says in reference to the stand-alone YouTube Kids app (more on that below,) but the issue remains the same for both services. Remix of Ellie Goulding’s Lights was super cool too, for a festival set that is going to be all dance party it’s always good to get some songs in there that are more universally familiar to keep the crowd energy up. Speakerbox brought in some more hip hop style vocals but still kept things from getting too aggro by keeping the bass in check. Was Will Be was my first intro and it does a good job drawing you in w/ high melodies and female vocals but always keeps an edge that makes it really engaging to listen to. One of my Forest companions made a big push for this dude and I’m glad he did, such good dance music that doesn’t just rely on big drops but takes you on a journey. Shadow Play more traditional song with lyrics, prob my fav actually. I Need You More plays with vocals but more as a looping instrument than lyrics. Don’t Do It was my first introduction: 9+ minute song with a long guitar solo that almost brought in some metal influences. It very much is not…it’s almost like indie alternative ballad rock.
